Barbara BarnetteDescription: Barbara Barnette was The President of the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta in 1997 when Denver Botanic Gardens held the IWGS New Waterlily competition. She was visiting the Gardens and fell in love with one of the tropical waterlilies we entered into the competition. Joe Tomocik suggested that we name the waterlily after her which we did. This tropical waterlily was a chance seedling with one of the parents being Albert Greenberg. The characteristic that makes this waterlily unique is the fact that the foliage is different from any other autumn shade lily on the market. The foliage is heavily mottled with maroon streaks running throughout the pads.
The measure given is an average diameter foliage will reach given normal growing conditions although most lilies adapt to the growing space provided. D= 1-2', S= 2-4', M= 4-6', L= 6'+ Waterlilies- Our lilies are shipped bare root with foliage. We also offer some varieties of hardy lilies and almost all tropical lilies potted in 4.5" pots. Each plant will have 3-5 leaves and hardy lilies will have a 2-4' tuber. For identification purposes each lily has a vinyl colored-coded tag attached showing the name and variety of the plant. We also offer packaged hardy waterlily tubers. The tubers are attractively package and are sold by color in red, white, pink, and yellow. Special pricing my be available for waterlily quantities of 100 or more per variety. Most tropical lilies are available in 4.5" pots for an additional $2.00. Shipping Orders can be sent two ways: airport to airport, from Fort Lauderdale International on the airline of your choice. Airlines typically deliver your freight overnight. Shipping charges are always freight collect. The second method is federal express directly to your door. We commonly use economy two day service, but overnight delivery is available if requested.  Water Lily Care
If you are continually getting algal blooms, stop feeding your lillies and only fertilize them when they seem to slow down in making new blooms. If you see your plants turning yellow immediately after a feeding, you may have added too much fertilizer. Fish the tabs out of the dirt and wait for the plants to recover before feeding again. You will have beautiful water lily blooms throughout the growing season if you stick to monthly fertilization application and giving water lillies the light and depth requirements they need. Water Lillies are very easy to care for. You need to give them a few fertilizer tabs at the beginning of each pond season and when you replant them. To keep them blooming all season, add a plant tab or two each month. Tropical lillies should be fed until the middle of August.
